David Sedaris Updated Biography

David Sedaris is a well-known humor writer.  He is best known for his complete disregard for political correctness and the blunt manner with which he talks about the world.  He is extremely observant and loves to write satires.  He has written two novels, Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, in addition to multiple collections of personal essays such as Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and When You Are Engulfed in Flames; every one of these pieces has become a bestseller.

In addition to his solo career, Sedaris has also collaborated with his sister to write a number of plays that have been produced in numerous New York City theatres.  Sedaris frequently appears on the radio show
This American Life, circulated by Public Radio International and produced by WBEZ.  He has been nominated for three Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album.  The most recent live album is entitled David Sedaris: Live For Your Listening Pleasure and came out in November of 2009.

Sedaris has lived in a multitude of locations throughout the world.  He was born in Johnson City, NY on December 26, 1956, but soon moved to Raleigh, NC, where he spent his childhood.  He spent some time in Chicago and New York before eventually moving to Normandy, France with his partner, Hugh Hamrick.  He owns a house in London as well, and is constantly traveling the globe for book tours, radio appearances, and more.
